Sydney, it's spectacular, it's exciting, it's fast-paced, it's vibrant and is definitely one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Sydney is Australia's largest city and is the Capital of the State of New South Wales. The city is the gateway for most people visiting the country, including several hundred thousand backpackers who come here each year. Sydney has some of the world's most famous landmarks, like the Sydney Harbor Bridge and the Opera House. It also has one of the most spectacular and beautiful harbors and some of the most stunning and famous beaches anywhere on this planet. The city has so much else to offer. It has a fantastic cafe scene, including some of the best coffee you will ever find. There is such a diversity of food available, where you can experience the taste of literally every country on this planet, in places ranging from small family owned eateries, to the most award winning restaurants in the world. If you like to shop, there are so many opportunities for you. There are unique markets, major shopping centers, pedestrian malls and shopping strips scattered right throughout the city. You will find amazing fashions, the finest local produce and fairly much anything else you could desire. Sydney is also known as the party capital of Australia, with many great nightclubs, bars, pubs, dance parties, live music venues and major music festivals worth visiting or attending. In addition to this, there are always plenty of cultural activities, major events and other festivals occurring right throughout the year. You never need to spend a night at home, unless you want to. Sydney is a very culturally diverse place and you can find pockets of so many nationalities scattered around the city. Some of the most popular areas include China Town in Haymarket, or Little Italy in Leichhardt. Although this is a fairly young city in world standards (just over 200 years old), it still has a fascinating history and exploring The Rocks area is one of the best places to gain an understanding about this. If you want to escape the city for a moment, you don't need to go too far. There are several beautiful and spectacular national parks scattered throughout the city, even as close as on the shores of Sydney Harbor. Sydney also has some of the loveliest parks and gardens you will find anywhere and most are located right in the heart of the city and along the foreshore of Sydney Harbor and adjoining waterways. Meanwhile, on the coast, beach communities such as Bondi and Manly are the cradle of an outdoorsy, active and yet laid-back lifestyle that has become the quintessential Australian identity. After a lazy Saturday at the beach, urbane Sydneysiders have a disco nap, hit the showers and head out again. There's always a new restaurant to try, undercover bar to hunt down, hip band to check out, sports team to shout at, show to see or crazy party to attend. The people make Sydney what it is; Sydneysiders are very friendly people and are renowned for their open mindedness. So come and see what it is all about for yourself, you won't be disappointed.

Sydney Harbor Bridge

Sydney Harbour Bridge - The bridge was built in 1932 as a government employment project during the Great Depression and its steel frame has become an iconic symbol of the city. It is is one of the world’s few climbable bridges and the view during the climb is exceptional.

Darling Harbour - The Darling Harbour is a popular recreational complex adjacent to Sydney’s city center, with breathtaking river views and plenty to keep you well-fed and entertained. There’s a massive variety of attractions in the Harbour, as well as a vibrant nightlife scene. There is an excellent Harbourside Shopping Centre an aquarium, a Madam Tussauds and more.

The Rocks - The Rocks is the first site of European settlement in Australia, and is rich in history; it was particularly important first as a convict site and then as a working-class part of town. The Rocks is known for its markets, cobblestoned laneways, and the stunning views of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

George Street - George Street in Sydney is the oldest street in Australia. It started out as a track from the site of Captain Arthur Phillip's settlement at what is now The Rocks, leading southward into the area of today's Central train station. There are loads of shops, pubs and restaurants all down this street.

 
Backpacking Bondi Beach

Hang at Bondi Beach - Bondi Beach is one of Australia’s most famous beaches, and a popular hangout for Sydney’s beautiful people, as well as local and international celebrities. It’s always busy here, but usually not too busy, and the atmosphere is exciting. The surrounding suburb has some great retail and dining options as well as plenty of pubs to grab a drink in.

Hang at Manly - Manly is a relaxed beachside suburb, a short and fun ferry ride away from Sydney’s city center. It’s extremely popular with locals and tourists alike and it’s ideal for beach and water activities such as beach volleyball, running, kayaking, scuba and surfing. Manly also boasts excellent al fresco dining options, and plenty of shopping and pubs for a big night after a day on the beach.

Take a Ferry around Sydney Harbor - Cruising past the opera house and enjoying the stunning views of the water is a wonderful way to relax after a long day of exploring the city on foot. There’s various sightseeing cruises available, many of which are catered, but if you’re on a budget, you can enjoy the same views at a much cheaper price via public transport.

Nightlife

Aussies love to drink and Sydney has earned a reputation for its vibrant nightlife and thriving pub culture. Sydney offers plenty of options for backpackers looking to have a bunch of pints after a long day of exploring or hanging on the beach. Bondi & Manly beach are home to great pubs and beer gardens and you’ll be sure to have a great night after a beach day here. You can also find some awesome pubs at The Rocks, or Coogee. Later nightlife is often concentrated around Kings Cross where you’ll find many strip clubs as well as plenty of clubs. Oxford Street has gained a reputation as Sydney's nightclub strip, and Newtown and the Inner West region are home to some of the best parties in Sydney.
