Backpacking Glasgow

Information on Glasgow, sights to see, nightlife, activities and more.

Edgier and less polished than Scotland’s capital, Glasgow has left its sleazy reputation behind to become an international city, with a thriving student population keeping things cool Glasgow is the largest city in Scotland and there are so many things to do. The city is home to fantastic art galleries, historical National Trust properties, leafy green spaces, amazing street art, and a plethora of live music venues. Glasgow is perhaps not as well-known as Edinburgh to international travelers, but the reward of visiting here is a less crowded city where experiences seem less rushed and more authentic. Glasgow is an easy city to love with its friendly and welcoming residents, dozens of free museums and attractions, burgeoning focus on craft food and drink, thriving live music scene, large number of Charles Rennie Mackintosh buildings, and beautiful country homes and parks. There is something in the city for everyone from those who love art and architecture to those who prefer breweries and music. Glasgow has enough esteemed art galleries, historic architecture and excellent shopping to rival Edinburgh. Plus it’s a bargain city compared to other UK cities making Glasgow the perfect choice for a budget traveler or backpacker.

Nightlife

A big reason people venture up to Glasgow is because of the reputation it has built over the years. Glasgow is a drunk city and by far the best place to party in Scotland and maybe even in the UK. With a stream of affordable pubs, bars and nightclubs along most city center streets, there’s variety and ambiance every night of the week. If you’re looking for the crazier party district head over to the bar and club scene on Sauchiehall Street, Union Street, and the Clydeside, where all the establishments are within a 20 minute walk from each other.
